A Strong Start to 2025 for Hamilton’s Testing Community

What do a good topic, a great speaker and an awesome venue combine to deliver? One very well subscribed and entertaining Hamilton Software Test Professionals Meetup – our first for the Hamilton area for 2025!!

A Full House at Pacific Technology Solutions

Held at Pacific Technology Solutions, on Tuesday 8th April we had 28 local software test professionals register and attend. To network, to share knowledge and to hear from leading industry professionals on what is the current state of AI in Testing / Testing AI.

Community at the Core

As always with our Software Test Professional Meetups, the focus was very much on the community getting together and getting to know one another. The drinks and nibbles provided by TTC Global, together with the welcoming environment of the meetup did a great job of doing this. Attendees all arrived early and made good use of the pre-presentation meet and greet time. Clearly the theme and topic of the event resonated well with the local test professional community – this was our largest Hamilton event to date.

Diving Deep into AI in Testing

Once the presentation started, there was a good level of interest. Our presenter – Mei Reyes-Tsai – gave a great overview of the history of AI, the benefits (and the failures) and a good summary of the current state – particularly with the use of AI in Testing. Candidate potential use cases for AI in testing were presented together with an assessment of their current and potential value. It was good to see that many of the audience had started down some of the paths presented by the use cases that were shown – there was good follow-on discussion on their results to date.

Challenges of Testing AI

Mei’s presentation also covered some of the complications requirements for the testing of AI. Non-deterministic outcomes, quality of AI inputs, AI hallucinations are all significant variables to overcome when leveraging testing to ensure that the results from the AI implementation didn’t give erroneous results and damage company reputation. Previous examples of production work done with AI from previous meetups were also presented and discussed.

Engaging Discussions and What’s Next

The meetup wrapped up with a lively Q&A and engaging conversations that extended well beyond the presentation. Attendees were keen to share their experiences, ask thoughtful questions, and connect with others exploring similar AI journeys. The strong turnout and enthusiasm have already sparked anticipation for our next Hamilton meetup, scheduled in approximately four months.

Wrapping Up a Fantastic Afternoon

Overall, it was an inspiring and insightful afternoon filled with great conversations, new connections, and valuable takeaways. A big thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped make this event a success!
